The Color Selector project has been OpenSourced. My former hosting provider, Hypermart, is discontinuing their free hosting service, so to prevent the loss of Color Selector, I have moved it to SourceForge. My website (KOY Software) will no longer be available after February 25th, 2004. This is the new Color Selector web site. The Color Selector project page is http://sourceforge.net/projects/colorselector

Color Selector 3.0 is our latest project. The next stage of Color Selector's development, version 3.0 is bigger, better and includes even more features than it's predecessor, Color Selector 2.0. Unfortunatly, it's also a bit slower, and bigger (625KB vs. 170KB, unzipped, including the help file), but that really shouldn't matter a lot on a modern computer. You can read about the new features below, and be sure to check it out! If you have any questions or would like to submit a suggestion, please email me.

Note: You can use CS2 at the same time as CS3 if you want, but settings (like window positions) are only saved for one of them.

Features:

  • Color selection sliders and input boxes.
  • Shade control slider.
  • Alternative access to the windows color dialog.
  • Format Converter converts from HTML, RGB, HSL, CMY, hexadecimal, decimal, and octal.
  • Color picker finds the color of any pixel on the screen.
  • Export to the clipboard in six formats: HTML, RGB, HSL, CMY, hexadecimal, decimal, octal, and graphical color swatch.
  • Palette tool allows you to select, set and manipulate colors from a palette.
  • Open palettes from pal, act, and bmp files. Save them as pal and act files.
  • Four default palettes: Web 216, Web 125 (Unix), Windows System and Macintosh System.
  • Snap to Palette feature allows you to convert the current color to the nearest available color in the current palette. Easily find the nearest websafe color using the Web 216 palette!

  • New in Version 3.0!
  • An additional export format (HSB/HSV).
  • Gradient Scrollbars; they look way cooler, and hopefully will be easier to use.
  • Much better picker. Now displays the portion of the screen that the mouse is over at up to 9x zoom, and can get a 3x3 or 5x5 average. It can even let you select an area on your screen and get the average!
  • Sliders are no longer limited to RGB. They now support HSL, HSB/HSV, and CMY as well!
  • New input and output formatting options! Standard, Byte, Percentage and Decimal! You can even specify your own custom formats!
  • Scripting support! Format output any way you like! Create your own export formats! Modify the converter to read your formats!
  • Click to Copy option now available. No more using CTRL-C to copy formats; just click the format box!
  • Some bug fixes.

  • Version 3.01
  • Use dropper for color picker cursor option.

Download Color Selector 3.01 (252KB)
Supports 95/98/ME/XP and NT4/2000
Requirements: Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime Files, Windows Script Control, Windows Script 5.6
(You may not need these files, especially if you are running Windows XP or higher, so you might want to try running Color Selector first. If you receive any errors about missing DLLs or OCXs, download and install the above files. Also, if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, you probably don't need Windows Script 5.6.)
